Eric and Bobby Newman worked closely with Carlos Fuente, Sr. and Carlos Fuente, Jr. developing a new blend worthy of the Black Diamond name. Five-year-old aged filler tobaccos are exclusively grown for Black Diamond by the Fuente Family in the Dominican Republic and meticulously hand-rolled into a rich-tasting Connecticut Havana seed sun-grown wrapper. The Diamond Crown Black Diamond Emerald is a small batch epicurean cigar and is very limited in production because it is held to the absolute highest standard of quality control.

The Diamond Crown brand is synonymous with excellence and was the first cigar of its kind when Stanford Newman launched it for our company’s 100th Anniversary. He had a dream of launching the first luxury cigar. He didn’t care how much it cost to make it or even if it sold, he just wanted it to be the best.

More than twenty years ago J.C. Newman Cigar Company patriarch Stanford J. Newman, challenged his good friend Carlos Fuente, Sr. with an idea that had never been tried in the cigar industry to develop a rich, flavorful, superb-tasting premium cigar and package it in an inexpensive cellophane bundle. Until that time, factories only packaged their seconds in bundles. Today La Unica No. 100 Maduro cigars, with the original 1986 blend and smooth rich flavor, preserves the history of the brand. These superb cigars have now grown up from their bundle days and are elegantly packaged in custom cedar cabinets of 20. Despite the maturity of the packaging, we have not strayed from our roots and the original hand selected, perfectly aged blend of tobaccos that make La Unica a favorite.

The Brick House Double Connecticut Short Torpedo cigar is rolled with the same highly acclaimed Brick House filler blend with a genuine Connecticut Shade wrapper and Connecticut Broadleaf binder. Fewer and cigars are being made with genuine Connecticut wrapper because many cigar manufacturers have found it to be more profitable to take Connecticut seeds and plant them elsewhere, like Ecuador or Honduras. J.C. Newman takes the use of genuine Connecticut tobacco by using it both in the wrapper and binder. The result of this combination is a very spicy and peppery rich flavor- one not only unlike regular Brick House- but one unlike any other cigar on the market today. When the swanky Stork Club opened in Manhattan in 1929, it was a place for movie stars, professional athletes and politicians to be seen. The Stork Club was a place my grandparents, Stanford and Eliane Newman, frequented in New York. Photos of celebrities aways featured the famous Stork Club ashtray. This vintage ashtray celebrates the century-old legacy of the Stork Club and J.C. Newman Cigar Co., the oldest family-owned premium cigar company in America. – Drew Newman

 

 

What is J.C. Newman?

J.C. Newman is a large cigar manufacturer based out of Florida, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic. They specialize in making value premium cigars sold in boxes or bundles. J.C. Newman offers a massive, diverse portfolio of brands to choose from.

History of J.C. Newman

J.C. Newman Cigar Co. began in Cleveland, Ohio on May 5, 1895. The company was started by none other than the Hungarian Jewish immigrant Julius Caesar (“J.C.”) Newman. Seeking Tampa’s ideal climate and rich reserves of imported tobacco, the company moved its operations to a Floridian cigar factory in 1954. Ever since, the company has been internationally recognized for brands such as Diamond Crown or Cuesta-Rey. Newer brands made in a Nicaraguan sister factory, such as Brick House or Perla del Mar, have also established the brand as a powerhouse of the cigar industry. The company partnered with Arturo Fuente Cigar Co. in 1986 to produce Dominican Handmade Cigars and built a Nicaraguan factory in 2011. The company is still family owned and operated.

Tampa-made Cigars

J.C. Newman manufactures more than twelve million cigars annually using antique cigar-making machines in Tampa, Florida. These cigars are sold as premium machine-made cigars and bear a blend of finely selected Ecuadorian and Pennsylvanian wrapper tobaccos with aged Dominican and Nicaraguan short filler tobaccos. These cigars are sold in bundles or boxes of twenty or more. These brands include Factory Throwouts, Trader Jacks, and Tampa Trolleys.

Nicaraguan-made Cigars

J.C. Newman manufactures more than twenty million handmade cigars annually in its premier factory PENSA in Estelia, Nicaragua. These cigars are sold as premium handmade cigars and bear a blend of finely selected Ecuadorian, Connecticuter, Pennsylvanian, Sumatran, and Nicaraguan wrappers. These cigars are either long-filler box cigars or short-filler bundle cigars. These cigars are sold as bundles of twenty or boxes of twenty-five. These brands include El Baton, Brick House, Perla del Mar, Quorum, and Alcazar.

Dominican-made Cigars

J.C. Newman manufactures more than five million handmade cigars annually in collaboration with Arturo Fuente Cigar Co. in the Dominican Republic. These cigars are sold as premium handmade cigars and bear a blend of finely selected Ecuadorian, Connecticuter, and African Cameroon wrappers. These cigars are long-filler boxes sold in units of ten or twenty. These brands include Diamond Crown, Black Diamond, Julius Caesar, Maximus, La Unica, and Cuesta-Rey.
