El Baton Robusto

El Baton Robusto single

This nickel cigar was originally hand rolled in a Cleveland, Ohio factory with Cuban tobacco back in 1914. Though it was popular for many years, the onset of machine-made cigars caused El Baton to disappear from the marketplace in the 1920’s. Re-launched in 2008, the brand has been met with rave reviews and acclaim from a wide range of cigar enthusiasts including a 91 rating from Cigar Aficionado. While it may have some history, don’t be fooled, this isn’t your grandfather’s stogie. El Baton Robusto cigars are grown in the most fertile areas of Nicaragua, providing for a smooth, hearty smoke with a little spice. This complex Nicaraguan cigar is made with full-bodied tobacco and has a spicy kick! The impact and flavor in this cigar can usually only be experienced for twice the price of the El Baton, but keeping true to its motto, this cigar gives smokers, mucho flavor for little dinero, something the true aficionado deserves.

J.C. Newman is a large cigar manufacturer based out of Florida, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic. They specialize in making value premium cigars sold in boxes or bundles. J.C. Newman offers a massive, diverse portfolio of brands to choose from.

History of J.C. Newman

J.C. Newman Cigar Co. began in Cleveland, Ohio on May 5, 1895. The company was started by none other than the Hungarian Jewish immigrant Julius Caesar (“J.C.”) Newman. Seeking Tampa’s ideal climate and rich reserves of imported tobacco, the company moved its operations to a Floridian cigar factory in 1954. Ever since, the company has been internationally recognized for brands such as Diamond Crown or Cuesta-Rey. Newer brands made in a Nicaraguan sister factory, such as Brick House or Perla del Mar, have also established the brand as a powerhouse of the cigar industry. The company partnered with Arturo Fuente Cigar Co. in 1986 to produce Dominican Handmade Cigars and built a Nicaraguan factory in 2011. The company is still family owned and operated.
