Fat Bottom Betty Cigar Review

It is a simple fact that, for the infrequent smoker, infused cigars outsell non-infused cigars across the United States. Amongst powerhouse brands, such as Tatiana or Tabak Especial, no infused cigar brand is more popular than Deadwood Tobacco Co. Inspired by the saloons and bawdy houses of the American high west, these cigars are a delicious blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos with natural flavoring providing a sweet twist. These cigars perfectly encapsulate the cowboy-tattoo-biker-alternative aspects of the cigar industry. Conveniently enough, they are all available on LM Cigars.

A division of Drew Estate, the largest cigar manufacturer in Nicaragua, the Deadwood “family” of cigars includes Crazy Alice, Sweet Jane, Leather Rose, and Fat Bottom Betty. With such a playful name, Fat Bottom Betty stands above its cousins in popularity. The mascot for the brand is a dark, mysterious woman with sugar skull style makeup and a headband. The cigars are a dark, sweet maduro with infused notes of chocolate. Each cigar has colorful and inviting packaging. The tagline, “Love is for suckers—cigars are for lovers” summarizes the brand nicely. If you could have unrequited love for a cigar, it would be the Fat Bottom Betty.

Launched in 2013 as a way of filling an important niche in the infused cigar market, Fat Bottom Betty is good value and good smoking. It is a darker, bolder cigar with some sweetness to balance the blend. The cigar debuted as a 5×54 robusto but now comes in a 6×50 toro and 6×60 gordito. This cigar appeals to virtually anyone who wants to smoke a Nicaraguan cigar without having the taste of leather and wood linger for days on end. Frequent cigar smokers turn their nose up at infused cigars due to the sweetness which is not typically found in tobacco. If you were able to see who was buying Fat Bottom Betty, you would bear witness to a hypocritical love affair. These cigars are incredibly successful with every demographic of smoker.

The box of 10 this cigar comes in serves to make it a reasonable box purchase, too. 10 cigars are an easier commitment than 25 cigars. Regardless of box count, you will want to buy a box of Fat Bottom Betty. The cigars have a lovely aroma off the foot—it smells of leather and earth with the distinct, but not overwhelming, infusion of the natural flavoring. The cigar features aged Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos with a lovely Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper. The cigar lights and burns with a little bit of work. The oily maduro wrapper and natural flavorings inhibit a huge conflagration. Once lit, however, the cigar burns evenly and produces pleasant, complex flavor notes with each puff.

The three sizes are all worth purchasing, but the toro size comes out on top for value. The smoking times are 1hr15min for the robusto, 1hr45min for the toro, and 2hr20min for the gordito. The toro has a symphony of chocolate, earth, and leather which builds into a crescendo of cherry wood and baker’s spice, sustaining an ecstatic experience for the full duration of the cigar. At no point does the cigar struggle to burn or suffer from issues of bitter intensity or pepper overload. This is the perfect cigar for someone who smokes with friends once a week or oftener. It gently introduces you to its constituent Broadleaf maduro and Nicaraguan tobaccos and leaves you wanting more. Although you probably will not, share these cigars with your friends or significant other. Just as Fat Bottom Betty the mascot likely spreads when sitting down, spread the love of a fine handmade cigar.
