This brand is a very special jewel in the tiara of J.C. Newman Cigar Co.’s Dominican handmade cigars. Reimagined from a Tampa Havana Clear cigar from the 1940’s and 1950’s, J.C. Newman Cigar Co. produced this cigar in collaboration with Arturo Fuente Cigar Co. This cigar was the first of dozens of Newman-Fuente collaboration cigars. Conceptualized as a value bundle brand, thousands of La Unica cigars flew off the shelves of American humidors in the 1980’s and 1990’s. In the early 2000’s, J.C. Newman Cigar Co. turned the brand into a boxed cigar which comes in boxes of twenty. Though Cuesta-Rey and La Unica fell off in terms of popularity when faced with the hugely successful Nicaraguan handmade brands, La Unica remains the favorite of hundreds of thousands of American cigar smokers. This cigar is a throwback to the glory days of the cigar boom in the 1990’s. This cigar graces every humidor it touches.
