Established in its current form in 1989, Gurkha is a newcomer to the cigar industry. Indeed, they missed much of the cigar boom in the 1990’s and relied upon catalog sales to carry its success into the 2010’s. Since that time, however, they catapulted to immense success. They are now a cigar shop name, familiar to brick-and-mortar tobacconists alongside much older brands. The brand originated as a small street vendor in Portuguese colonial Goa. The brand was purchased and became a fully fledged manufacturer in the Dominican Republic and south Florida.
