Gurkha Cigars

Established in its current form in 1989, Gurkha is a newcomer to the cigar industry. Indeed, they missed much of the cigar boom in the 1990’s and relied upon catalog sales to carry its success into the 2010’s. Since that time, however, they catapulted to immense success. They are now a cigar shop name, familiar to brick-and-mortar tobacconists alongside much older brands. The brand originated as a small street vendor in Portuguese colonial Goa. The brand was purchased and became a fully fledged manufacturer in the Dominican Republic and south Florida. Named for a fierce warrior culture from Nepal and Northeastern India, Gurkha cigars are known for their bold flavor and opulent presentation. Indeed, some  sell for hundreds of dollars for a single stick. Their success with cognac infused cigars and pre-embargo gimmick Cuban cigars placed it within the arena of cigarmakers vying for the palates of millions of cigar smokers. They offer a huge portfolio of cigars at varying price points. Some five-pack samplers are convenient and value-oriented. Boxes of Cellar Reserve or Real, however, are sold at a higher price point for cigar smokers with a more discerning palate. If there is a cigar smoking palate, Gurkha has a cigar to accommodate it. The Gurkha Ghost, Gurkha Pure Evil, Gurkha Revenant, Café, and Grand Reserve are a few of the brands offered by Luis Martinez cigars from Gurkha’s sprawling hegemony. Their cigars are Dominican handmade cigars with the finest selected tobaccos from Sumatra, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Honduras, and Mexico.
