What is El Baton?

El Baton is a J.C. Newman Cigar Co. Nicaraguan handmade cigar. This cigar is made from aged Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos and has an incredible aroma. It is hearty and peppery with a balanced silky wrapper, making it medium to full-bodied.

History of El Baton

El Baton was originally an American handmade cigar sold for a nickel! J.C. Newman manufactured these cigars in Cleveland and Marion, Ohio during the 1910’s and 1920’s. Machine made cigars and the Great Depression destroyed the handmade nickel cigar market. The cigar reemerged with Eric and Bobby Newman, J.C. Newman’s grandsons, in 2008. Intended as a portfolio padder, the cigar was so popular it won dozens of awards. Today, it is one of the mainstays of the J.C. Newman Nicaraguan portfolio.
